Join a Class at the Y

At the Waterbury YMCA, we invite people from all walks of life, regardless of shape or size, to participate in our Group Fitness program. You don't have to be perfect, or be able to keep up with choreography; you can even have two left feet! If you are 18 or 80, overweight or thin, short or tall, or anywhere in between, the Y offers a program that caters to all people no matter what fitness level.

FREE CLASSES AVAILABLE FOR ALL YMCA MEMBERS:

Group Cycling:

Non-impact cardiovascular workout combining outdoor cycling techniques with great music. Classes are performed on stationary bikes. The instructor takes you through various intervals, adjusting pace, resistance, & pedaling style. Any level.

Bootcamp:

This high-intensity cardio and muscle endurance class follows a different weekly format. Get that heart pumping, plus get in some weight training using dumbbells, a medicine ball, step, mat, stability ball, or a Bosu for the ultimate workoutl Any level.

Strength Train Together: (STT)

STT will blast all your muscles with a high-rep weight training workout. Using an adjustable barbell, weight plates, and body weight. STT combines squats, lunges, presses, and curls with functional integrated exercises. Class moves are released quarterly and are the same for six weeks so you can gauge your progress. Any level.

Balance & Flex TOGETHER:

This class will grow you longer and stronger with an invigorating mind-body workout. It incorporates Yoga and Pilates fundamentals with athletic training for balance, mobility, flexibility, and core strengthening. Emotive music drives the experience as you breathe and sweat through the journey. Any level.

Barre:

Total body sculpting workout that is a fusion of yoga, Pilates, strength training, and ballet. Classes are low impact and are set to fun and motivating music using body weight and free weights. Beginner friendly.

AOA 55+:

Have fun and move with the music through various exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement, balance, and activity for daily living skills. Classes are geared toward "Active Older Adults." Beginner Friendly.

Boxing on the Bags:

Shift your workout into overdrive with this heart-pumping, boxing-inspired bag challenge! The class will feature a mash-up of plyometrics, weight training, and boxing on the bags. Gloves are not provided, so bring your own. Any level .

Circuit Mania:

Total body circuit class focusing on power/plyometrics, endurance, strength, core, and cardio circuits. Use various equipment, including med balls, dumbbells, kettlebells, battle ropes, TRX, bands, and so much more. Look no further for a quick, intense, fast-paced workout! Any level.

Zumba:

Latin and international music and dance themes create a dynamic, exciting, motivating workout. A mixture of body sculpting movements is combined with easy-to-follow dance steps for the ultimate dance party workout! Any level .

MX4:

Small group training program done with a partner following a timer. This HIIT style class includes the TRX, battle ropes, bands, med balls, a self-powered treadmill, a rower, and an upper-body cycle. Intermediate level.

Power Yoga:

A challenging, flowing, focused, and progressive series designed to tone and reshape muscles, increase strength & endurance, and develop better flexibility, balance, and coordination. Experience the difference when you lengthen while you strengthen. Intermediate level.

Family Zumba:

Fun family time! Join us for a traditional Zumba workout with easy-to-follow dance steps for the ultimate dance party experience! Open to children 4 years old and up with an adult. Beginner friendly.

Tai Chi:

A series of slow, gentle movements and postures, deep breathing, and a meditative state of mind. The goal is to create harmony between the mind and body, and to cultivate inner life energy (qi) to flow smoothly through the body. Beginner friendly.

Salsa/Bachata:

These classes require registration to attend. Class is capped at 30 participants due to the unique movement around the room. This class follows a progressive seven-week format and you can expect to switch dance partners to best learn from each other. Intermediate-advanced.

Cardio Muscle Mix:

A high-intensity interval training (HIIT) workout in the Tabata style, using short, intense exercises to burn calories and maximize muscle-burning in a short amount of time. It will make you sweat! Any level.

Pilates:

A low-impact exercise practice that uses a mat and your body weight to improve your physical and mental health. The class involves a series of full-body exercises that combine strength and flexibility training using repetitive, fluid movements and poses. Any level.

All Levels Yoga:

Relax with breath as we go through flowing Vinyasas, yoga postures & techniques. Benefits include muscular balance, coordination, strength. flexibility, & relaxation. Any level.

Chair Yoga:

This class combines stretching, meditation, and yoga, utilizing a chair for both standing and seated support. It is beginner-friendly.
