The Greater Waterbury YMCA is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) charitable organization incorporated in the State of Connecticut serving over 10,000 individuals annually across our nine town service area of greater Waterbury.
The YMCA strives to serve all regardless of ability to pay. All YMCA programs are subsidized to ensure accessibility and emphasize the core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility. Our YMCA has introduced the 40 developmental assets, developed by the Search Institute of Minneapolis, which help to build leadership and positive values.

Strong Kids Campaign
The Strong Kids Annual Campaign is the foundation on which the Greater Waterbury YMCA accomplishes its mission of building strong kids, strong families, and strong communities. The Strong Kids Annual Campaign strengthens the organization’s ability to provide values-based programs and activities to over 10,000 people annually in the greater Waterbury region, regardless of their ability to pay.
MoreCharitable contributions to the Strong Kids Annual Campaign allows the YMCA to respond to the needs of communities and individuals by creating opportunities to participate in programs that build healthy minds, spirits, and bodies.
Your unrestricted donation helps provide programs to those who otherwise couldn't afford to participate. With your support, we are able to provide financial assistance to youth, adults, and families so that they can participate in enriching programs such as wellness, child development, teen leadership, camping, out-reach, and sports. Your gift will ensure a brighter future for our community.

Campership
Designated gifts may be made to send children to either of the two YMCA day camp programs – Camp Mataucha located on Smith Pond Road in Watertown or Camp Oakasha located at the Adventure Center on the Southbury Training School grounds in Southbury.
MoreOur camp programs provide nurturing and enriching camp activities for a safe, fun and quality experience forming memories to last a lifetime. Please consider a gift to send a child to camp for a two week session – prices average $350 per session.

Gifts of Stock
The Greater Waterbury YMCA accepts gifts of appreciated securities as payment of any form of charitable gift. These gifts may be beneficial to income tax savings and capital gains tax.
MoreFor most donors, the fair market value of stocks and bonds may be deducted for income tax purposes up to 30 percent of adjusted gross income with a five-year carryover. All charitable giving, including planned gifts, should be reviewed with your tax advisor.
When a payment of a commitment or pledge is to be made with securities, the donor (s) may direct his or her broker to transfer/deliver the securities to the following account of the Greater Waterbury YMCA held at Webster Financial Group.

Charitable IRA Rollover Opportunity
The Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008, signed into law on October 3, renews a temporary provision that allows donors age 70½ or older to make a direct, tax-free rollover of up to $100,000 from a traditional or Roth IRA to a qualified charitable organization, but only until the end of 2009.
MoreA direct rollover will be much better for most donors than a taxable IRA withdrawal followed by a charitable gift. Please contact your financial advisor to review the many tax benefits associated with this and other giving opportunities.
Donors of any age can still make a deferred gift of an IRA or other retirement account by naming the Greater Waterbury YMCA as a beneficiary of the account at their death.

Endowment/Planned Giving
Perpetuating Important Values
MoreGiving to the YMCA Endowment through planned giving gifts perpetuates important values the YMCA has embodied through the years. We ask for your support to extend our influence beyond our own lifetimes through your gifts to the YMCA’s permanent endowment. Such gifts can be directed to support the overall work of the YMCA, or can be designated to support a specific YMCA program.
The nation’s tax laws provide incentives that encourage philanthropy in recognition of charitable organizations as being important in meeting needs of our society. Depending on the specific arrangement, you can expect some or all of the following benefits of a well-designed gift to the YMCA’s endowment:
- income tax savings through the charitable deduction for the value of the gift;
- avoidance of the capital-gains tax on contributions of certain kinds of property that have increased in value over time;
- income for life, for a donor and/or other beneficiaries;
- the possibility of increased spendable income with certain arrangements;
- elimination of federal estate tax on the value of a gift passing to the YMCA upon the donor’s death; and
- reduced estate settlement costs
When the YMCA is aware of your financial as well as philanthropic objectives, we can help formulate a plan that takes full advantage of the available tax benefits while at the same time fulfilling your desire to benefit future generations of children and families through the YMCA.

Heritage Club
This group is compiled of individuals who support the mission of the YMCA through gifts to the Endowment fund. Our greatest need is long-range financing to ensure the longevity of our services. Remembering the YMCA through an endowment or bequest ensures our financial strength and prevents your estate from being eroded by taxes.
MoreCreate your legacy today through one of the following methods:
- An outright gift of money, securities, property, or other marketable assets.
- Naming the YMCA to receive a bequest in one’s will or living trust.
- Naming the YMCA as the beneficiary of life insurance.
- Naming the YMCA as a remainder Trust, Gift Annuity, Pooled Income Fund, IRA, or a gift of a personal residence with a retained life estate.

Sponsorship
Sponsorship opportunities are available for a variety of YMCA special events including the annual Poker Run and Golf Tournament benefiting the YMCA scholarship program. Other opportunities will be announced and posted on www.waterburyymca.org.

Matching Gift Opportunities
Many employers sponsor matching gift programs and will match any charitable contributions made by their employees. Please inquire with your employer to determine if they have a matching gift policy.
If your company is eligible, request a matching gift form from your employer, and send it completed and signed with your gift. We will do the rest. The impact of your gift may be doubled or possibly tripled! Some companies match gifts made by retirees and/or spouses.
