Membership Fees

The Greater Waterbury YMCA offers several membership options to suit your needs. YMCA Financial Assistance is available to qualifying families and individuals for YMCA membership.

The YMCA and its property is a smoke-free environment. Smoking is not permitted on YMCA property.

Members and guests are encouraged to be responsible for their personal comfort and safety and ask any person whose behavior threatens their comfort to refrain. If a member or guest feels uncomfortable in confronting the person directly, he or she should report the behavior to a staff person.

All reported incidents will be reviewed by Executive Management. The decision to suspend or terminate YMCA membership privileges will be made at the discretion of Executive Management if a violation of the Code of Conduct has occurred.

Merchandise

For your convenience, a variety of clothing, towels and sporting goods are for sale at the front desk. Locks are also for sale and are strongly recommended.

Refunds

Program fees are fully refundable if withdrawal from a class occurs due to a doctor-documented illness. Letters of credit may be issued in lieu of refunds and are valid for one year. If withdrawal from a class occurs for any reason after the first or second class, a 50% refund/credit may be issued. No refunds will be issued after the third class.

Racquetball courts may be reserved up to 48 hours in advance.

Age Restrictions: Children must be at least six months of age.

Drop-off Policies:

  1. Parents are to sign children in and out.
  2. Children need to utilize the bathroom before entering babysitting, including washing their hands.
  3. Children should not be left in babysitting if they are sick, had a fever in the last 24 hours, have a rash or have any infectious disease.
  4. Diapers should be changed prior to being left with the staff. If diapers need to be changed during the child's stay, the parent will be notified immediately as it is their responsibility to change the child's diaper.

Bathroom Policy: If a child is potty trained, YMCA staff will take the child to the bathroom located around the corner from the babysitting room. The staff must wait outside of bathroom and cannot assist in toileting help. Please make sure your child has clothing on that he/she can zip and button on his/her own. If a child is not potty trained or has an accident, babysitting staff will locate parent in the building and they will be responsible for changing the child and returning them to the babysitting room.

Toy Policy: Toys from home are not permitted into the babysitting room. Movies or games that the entire group can participate in are allowed. The staff is not responsible if anything happens to the equipment.

Snack Policy: Children are allowed, but not encouraged to bring in a healthy snack or juice. Please make sure that food items are labeled with your child's name. Also, provide snacks that your child has already tried and make sure you fill out the allergy portion on the sign-in sheet.

Code of Conduct

The Waterbury YMCA is committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for all members and guests. To promote safety and comfort for all, we ask individuals to act appropriately at all times when they are in our facility or participating in our programs. We reserve the right to do background checks on members in our sole discretion.

We expect persons using the YMCA to behave in a mature and responsible way and to respect the rights and dignity of others. Our Code of Conduct does not permit language or any action that can hurt or frighten another person or that falls below a generally accepted standard of conduct. Specifically, this includes:

  • Inappropriate attire; Appropriate attire must be worn at all times for the activity. Offensive wording on shirts or accessories fall under this area
  • Angry or vulgar language including swearing, name-calling or shouting.
  • Physical contact with another person in any angry or threatening way.
  • Any demonstration of sexual contact or activity
  • Harassment or intimidation by words, gestures, body language or any other menacing behavior.
  • Theft or behavior which results in the destruction of property.
  • Carrying or concealing any weapons or devices or objects which may be used as weapons.
  • Using or possessing illegal chemicals or alcohol in or on YMCA property or at YMCA sponsored programs.
  • Any other conduct of an inappropriate, threatening or offensive nature i.e. interrupting fitness classes or other structured workouts by non-participants
  • Loitering is not permitted in or outside the YMCA.

Valuables

Valuables may be checked at the Front Desk. Kit lockers are available for rental for an annual fee. The YMCA is NOT responsible for personal items that are lost or stolen.

Locker Rooms

We recommend you secure and lock all of your belongings in lockers. Any locks left on full-length lockers over night will be removed and the items in the locker will be held for one week. Kit lockers are available for an annual fee and can be used to store valuables as well as things you may forget (e.g. soap, shampoo, etc.) The Waterbury YMCA is not responsible for any personal items that are lost or stolen. Men and women's adult locker rooms are reserved for members aged 21 years and older. The family locker room is for adults with children.

Saunas and Steam Rooms

Members aged 21 years and older may use these facilities. Towels are required inside both facilities. For the health and protection of yourself and others, we recommend that shower shoes be worn in the shower, around the pool deck and in the sauna and steam rooms.

Cell Phones

Cell phones are not allowed in any program areas at any time. Camera cell phones are not allowed in the any part building at any time.

WELLNESS CENTER RULES

To ensure the health, safety and enjoyment for all, we ask our members & guests to abide by the following guidelines:


• Members & guests are encouraged to go through a “Free” Wellness Center orientation with our staff. Training includes proper use and technique on the Free Motion equipment. Sign up for your session at the Wellness Center desk.
• Members 12 – 17 years old must attend a “Free” Teen Orientation prior to use. Please sign-up at the Wellness Center desk.
• Anything that cannot fit in the cubbies needs to be stored in a locker with a secure lock. The YMCA is not responsible for items left in cubbies. The Y provides small lock boxes for your valuables. Please ask the floor staff for a free token.
• Wear appropriate workout attire such as a t-shirt, closed-toe athletic shoes, sweats,or shorts.


Not permitted:
o Jeans, khakis, cargo pants/shorts, bathing suits or plastic suits
o Sandals, crocs, flip flops or boots,
o Attire that is not safe, sanitary or appropriate.
• Cell phones are not permitted in any program area or in the locker rooms, including the Wellness Center. Please take your calls and texts in a hallway or in the lobby.
• Wipe down all equipment after use with a towel sprayed with cleaner; please do not spray cleaner directly on equipment.
• Please return all equipment to its proper place and re-rack your weights after use.
• Do not rest on the equipment. Allow others to "work in" or take turns.
• Report any violations of rules or damage of equipment to YMCA staff.

We strive to be one of the cleanest, best equipped Wellness Centers in the area. Please help us maintain the quality, cleanliness and consistency that our members have come to expect at the Greater Waterbury YMCA.
*Youth & Teen Wellness Center Members are not permitted to use this Wellness Center. The Youth & Teen Wellness Center is located behind the gym. Please ask for a schedule of hours at the front desk.

Youth Membership: An adult must accompany any member under the age of 12 at all times.

WEllness Center Rules for Teens

  1. Must be 12 years of age to use the fitness center.
  2. Members must be 19 years of age or older to use Wellness center from 5-7pm. Teens accompanied by their parents on family memberships are excluded.
  3. Children under the age of 12 may not use the Wellness center under any circumstances. All teens must complete and orientation before using the center.

Gymnasium Policies

  1. Street shoes are not permitted on the gym floor. Members are advised to bring extra sneakers to participate in activities.
  2. Proper sportsmanship is expected when engaging in pick-up and formal league play.
  3. No foul or obscene language will be tolerated.
  4. Food or drinks are NOT allowed in the gymnasium.
  5. Have respect for all reserved gym program usage and do not delay or disrupt program.
  6. The YMCA recommends leaving valuables at home.
  7. No hanging on the rims.
  8. Gym schedules are located at the front desk.

Pool Policies

 

  • ABSOLUTELY NO FOOD, BEVERAGE, OR GUM CHEWING IS ALLOWED IN THE POOL FACILITY.
  • A lifeguard is on duty at all times that the pool is open to the public.
  • Everyone should bathe with warm water and soap before entering the pool.
  • Any person known or suspected of having a communicable disease shall not use the pool.
  • Spitting or nose blowing in the water is prohibited.
  • Although the YMCA recommends that bathing caps be used, if a person's hair is longer than the neckline, his/her hair must be tied back.
  • Bathing caps and goggles may be purchased at the front desk.
  • Regulation bathing suits must be worn. No T-shirts or cut-offs.
  • Running, boisterous or rough play is prohibited.
  • Designated lanes are strictly for lap swimmers.
  • Children under the age of 12 must have an adult with them in the pool area at all times. An adult must accompany children under the age of 8 in the water at all times.
  • No swimming flotation devices from home are allowed (Bubbles, etc…)
  • No diving or jumping is permitted off the deck into the shallow end of the pool.
  • Diving blocks are not to be used during open swim.

Payment Options

Payments for membership dues may be made by cash, check, MasterCard or Visa. Fees may also be paid through payroll deduction if employed by the City of Waterbury or the State of Connecticut. Monthly payments are by draft only. Annual and quarterly plans are available.

Membership cards

Membership cards must be presented at the Front Desk for admittance into the building. If you do not bring your card, you may be held at the desk until a computer becomes available to verify your membership. A $5.00 fee will be charged for replacement cards. Misuse of membership cards is grounds for immediate termination of your YMCA membership.

The YMCA is for everyone regardless of economic status. Financial Aid forms are available at the Front Desk.

Temporary Stop/Freeze

YMCA memberships can be put on hold due to illness or injury and must provide doctor documentation. A membership may also be placed on hold for military deployment and “Snowbirds”, our members who spend a large amount of time out-of-state.

Bank Draft Cancellation

The Waterbury YMCA requires a written 30-day notice and membership card relinquishment in order to terminate your membership.

Guest Policy

YMCA members are allowed to bring 2 guests per year, guests must present the actual guest pass provided to you in this packet. Teens are not allowed to bring guests. Teens under family memberships may not bring guests unless there is parental supervision.

Reciprocity


My Y is Every Y... NOW NEW ENGLAND WIDE!

The New England YMCA Membership Reciprocity Program kicks off on June 1, 2011. This new program allows full facility/full privilege Y members (those holding adult, family and senior memberships) whose home Y is located in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and Connecticut to use their Y membership at other Y locations throughout New England at no additional cost.

Attending a conference in Hartford?

Grab your yoga mat. Visiting mom in Maine? Bring your sneakers. We are committed to helping you stay active and healthy by giving you access to Ys wherever you are. We hope you will take advantage of this new program as we believe MY Y IS EVERY Y IN NEW ENGLAND.

Who is eligible to participate in the New England Membership Reciprocity Program?

The program is for full facility/full privilege Y members (those holding adult, family or senior memberships) whose home Y is located in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and Connecticut.

Does it cost extra to participate in this program?
No, all full facility/full privilege members may participate at no additional charge. The reciprocity program is intended to be an added benefit and convenience for members when visiting other communities. You need to maintain a full facility/full privilege membership at the Y you visit most frequently.

How often can I use one of these YMCAs? Are there any restrictions on what I can do at a particular YMCA?
Many YMCAs have no limit on the number of visits by reciprocal members. Others have instituted a maximum number visits per month. Some Ys, such as the YMCA of Martha’s Vineyard, have seasonal blackout periods. A small group of Ys have restrictions based upon their business needs (i.e. usage at particular times of day due to parking issues). We recommend members check the individual Y’s website before visiting. See ymca.net for a complete listing of all Ys.

What do I need to bring to verify that I am a current Y member?
You must bring your current membership card and a photo ID (i.e. driver’s license) in order to utilize another Y. By providing both of these items the staff at the visiting Y will be able to verify your current Y membership. It is mandatory that you bring both of these items with you. .
