Running Program

Take over the streets with us and join the Y Running Program! You’ll get three coach-led group runs each week; Mondays and Wednesdays at 6 PM, and Sundays at 9 AM (Beginners) or 8 AM (Level 2 runners), a training plan, and team shirts. Participants are not expected to be at every run, although regular attendance is key to your success. Most weekday runs leave from the Waterbury YMCA front steps, and the Sunday runs are offsite on either the Middlebury Greenway Trail or the Cheshire Trail.

The Beginner program is great for anyone who has never run a race before, as it builds upon running intervals week after week. It also attracts those who enjoy running but have trouble getting into a running routine on their own. The group trains for the Run for Hope 5K in Bethlehem on Saturday, June 4th, 2022.

The Level 2 running program is for anyone who has the past running experience and would like to become a better and faster runner. Workouts include long runs, speed work, hill repeats, and a faster running pace than the Beginners. The goal race is the Litchfield Hills 7 Mile Road Race on Sunday, June 12th, 2022.

Weekday runs will leave from the YMCA or meet at Holy Cross High School track, focusing on speed and hill work, and Sunday runs will be from various locations, including the actual racecourses!
