Summer Programs
Our camping program is designed to give our campers a progressive, exciting, and age-appropriate day camp experience. Our campers learn and develop many new skills through a variety of activities including: swimming lessons, arts & crafts, archery, nature, hiking, outdoor living skills, and more!!
We have specific programs for all ages:
Explorers (Entering Kindergarten) Ratio - 1:6
This program provides a great full day camp experience! This program focuses on skill development and exploration through a variety of traditional camp activities and fun games.
Mohawks (Entering Grades 1 & 2) Ratio - 1:7
Personal attention and discovery activities highlight this camping experience. Campers recieve exposure to all of the traditional camp activities.
Iroquois (Entering Grades 3 & 4) Ratio - 1:8
This exciting group has its initial exposure to a true camp experience: an optional overnight filled with fun activities, campfire stories, and more!! Campers in their age group may also participate in an optional fun Iroquios field trip every session (roller skating, museums, and more!)
Pequots (Entering Grades 5 & 6) Ratio - 1:10
An adventerous program which exposes campers to advanced campcraft activities. The Pequots have the opportunity to participate in two optional overnights, and an exciting day trip (tubing, canoeing, and more!)
Trailblazers (Entering Grades 7 - 9) Ratio - 1:10
Our oldest campers get an "in-depth" camp experience! This program focuses on self-confidence, leadership, and values clarification. Trailblazers have an opportunity to participate in two optional overnights.
Counselors-In-Training (Entering Grade 10)
This dynamic leadership program is designed to teach counseling skills, develop responsibility, encourage teamwork, and help clarify personal values. Participants must be willing to swim, work with children, and participate in overnight activities.
Specialty Camps
YMCA Camp Mataucha Specialty Camps are growing in popularity every summer! Specialty camps are designed for campers who want an opportunity to concentrate on a specific skill while still having the chance to enjoy regular camp. Campers spend two periods in the morning dedicated to the specialty camp of their choice. After lunch, campers then participate in traditional camp activities such as boating, archery, ropes, and swimming. Space is limited!
Sports Camp Programs
Mega Sports (Entering Grades 3 - 5)
Not sure what sport to choose, don't worry at YMCA Camp Mataucha you can try them all! The active sports lover will enjoy learning and participating in lacrosse, soccer, basketball, t-ball and lots more. The staff leader will throw in a couple of water balloon tosses and other surprises to keep the group laughing and excited.
Girl Sports Camp (entering grades 6 - 8)
The same exciting program with a twist, girls only! Sportsmanship, teamwork and fair play are taught through a wide variety of sports.
Basketball Camp
Invented by the YMCA in 1891, basketball has taken the world by storm. Campers of all skill levels can experience this excitement for themselves through instructional games and activities designed to develop skills and encourage teamwork.
Soccer Camp
Learn to bend it like Beckham! No matter the ability level, soccer camp will assist
campers in developing their dribbling, passing, and shooting skills.
Arts and More
Performing Arts
This exciting program will give campers an opportunity to explore their interests and improve their abilities in a wide variety of performing and visual arts. Whether it's drama, comedy, or music, our experienced leaders will help campers develop their talents.
Dance Camp
Campers learn a variety of dance steps in various styles from hip-hop to ballet. They will have an opportunity to perform a choreographed routine during each session's family night
Earth Camp
These campers participate in a variety of exciting activities that focus on exploration, discovery, and protection of our environment. They are also responsible for maintaining Mataucha's Garden.
Mega Science Camp
Young minds will be challenged with a variety of cool hands on experiments and lessons. An experienced staff member will guide the group through discoveries in energy, motion, magnets as well as exploring the world of animals and bugs.
Tool Time
Participants will learn safe use of hand tools, basic carpentry skills and will gain useful knowledge in a variety woodworking areas. Campers will spend the first week building personal projects and have the opportunity to build something for camp the second week.
Teen Adventure Camps
for campers 12-14 years old
Climbing Challenge
Campers will learn beginning climbing techniques with an emphasis on safety, fun, and personal challenges. Climbers will master the low and high ropes course at camp and then take on a variety of climbing hotspots throughout Connecticut. The second week culminates with a trip to North Conway, New Hampshire where campers put their skills to the test under the direction of professional guides from EMS.
Outdoor Adventure
A great intro to the world of adventure activities. Participants begin facing challenges together on the low and high ropes course and continue to achieve new heights during a series of day trips including rock climbing, horseback riding, hiking and more. A great opportunity to build self confidence, learn valuable outdoor skills and making lasting friendships!
Adventure Programs
Fishing Camp
For experienced and beginning campers who want the ultimate fishing experience. Campers learn about fishing techniques, variety of fish and equipment safety. Campers will use their knowledge at our pond and will journey by bus to other local fishing holes.
Fort Building Camp
Help us build "Fort Mataucha". Campers will spend mornings learning building basics and structure safety building some of the biggest and best forts seen at camp.
Mountain Bike Camp
If off road, mud in your face trail biking is your thing, this is the camp for you! Campers will have the opportunity to bike through YMCA Camp Mataucha's 46 acres and surrounding local trails. There will also be a field trip to a near by state park to "rip it up." Camp will supply a Trek Mountain bike with a helmet.
Survivor Camp
For the adventurous campers who have an interest in advanced camps skills such as fire building, outdoor cooking, knot tying, lashing, shelter construction, low impact camping and more!
